Todd is just a month away from becoming a man, but in the midst of the cacophony, he knows that the town is hiding something from him - something so awful Todd is forced to flee with only his dog, whose simple, loyal voice he hears too. Ever since the settlers were infected with the Noise germ, Todd can hear everything the men think, and they hear everything he thinks. Todd Hewitt is the only boy in a town of men. John Bellairs died in 1991 he wrote the first three novels of the series, the rest of which were completed by Brad Strickland from Bellairs' notes. this was by no means a bad experience, and as a children's adventure, it is fine.but for me, i have to admit that the magic has faded a bit. A mix of elements and details that explode powerfully toward the end, but it takes time to get there. I will say, however, if you aren’t a fan of slow-burn novels, you should be aware that that’s exactly what this book is: a slow burn. I enjoyed the pacing, the slow and steady build of things that you don’t even really realize are building up to a pressure point until it happens. I’d qualify this one as a slow burn that leads to a raging inferno. Youngest is one of those books that crept up on me, I suppose I could say. I’ve just finished writing my own fantasy series set in an alternative Wild West, so I suppose the setting itself really got my blood pumping. When I realized it was a book set in an alternative West, I got really excited. "Searles' action- and intrigue-packed sci-fi thriller is peopled with characters who are sometimes confused, sometimes heroic and sometimes brats-that is to say, always genuine. The Stolen Moon, the thrilling sequel to Lost Planet by Rachel Searles, is an exciting science fiction adventure perfect for Star Wars fans. And I really really like the cover artwork. The series is written for Middle Graders, but it’s a lot of fun for all ages. I won an ARC of it last year and posted a review HERE.
